WHAT WE DO: The Trust for Public Land creates parks and protects land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come. See and learn more at http://www.tpl.org/ourland

WHY WE’RE GREAT: Founded in 1972, The Trust for Public Land is the leading nonprofit working to conserve land for people.  One of our core beliefs is that every American – particularly every child – should live within a 10-minute walk of a park, playground, or other natural area. Parks support the health and well-being of communities. For the 80 percent of Americans who live in cities and urban areas, parks and playgrounds offer the closest outdoor recreation and touch of nature. Through our national Parks for People initiative, we are working to transform neighborhoods with new amenities that bring people together, create safe places for children to play and foster community engagement.

Thanks to our work, nearly ten million people live within a ten-minute walk of a Trust for Public Land park, playground, garden or natural area. And in Newark, the State’s largest city, more than 100,000 people benefit from a nearby Parks for People park. Thanks to our efforts, there is visible change: a Fitness Zone® area, skateboard park and play area for families at Jesse Allen Park; a new field and track at Nat Turner Park; waterfront access and boardwalk along the Passaic River at Newark Riverfront Park; and seven public school playground transforms that include opportunities for outdoor learning and recreation. For nearly twenty years, our Parks for People program has worked to create park equity in Newark’s most underserved communities.

HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP: Your donation will help us build more parks where they are needed most in Newark. We believe that every neighborhood deserves a great place to connect, play and experience nature, and that every family should have close-to-home access to a park. From our perspective, parks are much more than scenery – they are an essential element of healthy, sustainable communities.

ADDITIONAL NEEDS: You can help us achieve our goals by supporting The Trust for Public Land and our Parks for People Newark program with a donation.
