Announcing the Jersey Give-Back Guide!

Jersey Give Back Guide

Today, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation launches the Jersey Give-Back Guide, an easy-to-use website that features a selection of New Jersey’s most effective and inspiring nonprofits and encourages the public to make year-end donations. It is sponsored by NJ.com which will promote it with a marketing campaign on their website.

The Guide uses a handy and fun device called the “Generosity Generator” to help take the guesswork out of giving. Using the Generator, individuals can choose from the categories (Community, Arts, Environment) to learn about this year’s recommended nonprofits, find one or more that match their interests, and follow an easy step-by-step process to make one or multiple donations via Paypal.

Why are we doing this and how did we choose the featured nonprofits? Good questions.

We strive to support our grantees and the nonprofit sector in multiple ways beyond a grant check. This is our attempt to help raise awareness about the good work happening all across the state, and to promote the idea of giving locally this holiday season.

It was hard – very hard – to whittle down the list to just fifteen of all the amazing nonprofits out there, but we needed to start somewhere. We chose organizations that excel in collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. The organizations have to be financially healthy and have an excellent reputation for their work. We also chose a diversity of organizations both programmatically and geographically.

To see which nonprofits are featured in the inaugural Jersey Give-Back Guide, please visit www.JerseyGiveBackGuide.org. You can also follow @JerseyGiveGuide on Twitter.

Please help us generate some generosity for New Jersey this holiday season.

The Guide will be online from now until mid-January, then re-launched next holiday season, featuring a new group of nonprofits.

This is a wonderful start, and I hope it is hugely successful. I have looked at NJ.com repeatedly to see if they are publicizing the Give back program, but I haven’t seen any mention of it. I may be looking in the wrong place, or missed it on a given day, but it seems to me that if they are truly partnering and sponsoring the program, they should have a permanent small banner ad on their front page, with a link directly to the Jersey Give Back web site. Can you please let me know if I’m missing it, or if you can reach out to NJ.com to do this while there are still some good giving days left in 2013. I am on the board of NJCF, so I have a particular interest in the program! Thank you, Dodge!

Keith – thank you for your kind comments. NJ.com is sponsoring the Guide by posting a variety of ads in a variety of places on their site. So sometimes it’s on the homepage, and sometimes it’s on other pages. It’s not necessarily on the site every day, but they have committed to running ads for almost two months. Thank you for helping us spread the word of the Give-Back Guide!
