Energy Detective

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

We told you about the Google PowerMeter service and other devices to measure energy use in your home. Joe Hutsko of the New York Times has this piece on the Energy Detective, yet another green gadget that helps you understand your personal energy consumption. The device retails for about $145.

The biggest lesson Hutsko learned when testing the Energy Detective? Turning his heat down just a little in the winter could cut his bill to a third.

Do you own one of these tools? Has it helped you reduce your electric bills?

If you’re in Morristown or nearby, The Seeing Eye® – our downstairs neighbor – opened its gift shop at 14 Maple Avenue. Pick up something special for the dog lover in your life, while supporting a good cause.

The Seeing Eye is the oldest guide dog school in the country; since 1929, they have been partnering guide dogs with people who are blind to bring them an enhanced level of mobility and self-sufficiency.

If you can’t make it to the Morristown shop, The Seeing Eye has an online store here. For more information about The Seeing Eye, visit their website.
